Icon Style Steal: Zooey Deschanel

It's amazing how with all the money in the world, most celebrities can't put together an outfit to save their lives. It's rare that someone like Zooey Deschanel comes along and uses their obscene wealth to purchase and concoct such adorable ensembles.



Since the release of her new commercial for cotton, I have been obsessing over the outfit she's wearing in the record store scene.

So I set out to reproduce it using normal human means. Ta-dah:

Nicole Richie: Jewelry "Designer"

Nicole Richie has launched her new jewelry collection "House of Harlow 1960" - complete with a lookbook starring... herself! Gotta love that celebutante modesty.

Surprisingly it's more reasonably priced than even Heidi Klum's collection -although to be fair, Heidi does tend to use higher quality materials. Prices start at $18 for a 14K gold plated ring and go up to $170 for a crystal faceted headpiece.

Beauty Steal: Mad Men How-To

Like many chic chicks I know, I've become obsessed with the AMC drama Mad Men, which if you weren't aware, is about an ad agency set in 1960-62. Not only are the sets and costuming amazing (check this post about the decor by my friend Ashley) but the MAKEUP is killer.

I set out to find out what products the makeup artist uses to create the red or rose lipped looks that make the actresses fair complexions glow. Thanks to BellaSugar and Access Hollywood, this is what I've found:

Lip liner: MAC shades Brick and Cherry
Lipsticks: Laura Mercier in Baby Lips and Mistress
Brows: MAC Fling and Lingering

Whatever you choose, veer away from blue-based reds and pinks, and keep it matte. Word is no one used frosty or blue-based shades at that time (which is why the red lips on Joan and Betty look almost natural.)

As far as the rest, Matte face powder and a black liquid liner are obvious necessities. In this case you could pretty much use any brand to score that part of the look. Makeup artist Debbie Zoller says she uses a cream blush called Cheekies by Julie Hewett dabbed on the apples of the cheeks, or a tiny dab of the lipstick the actress has on at the time.

If ever a television mom had standout style, it was the fierce redheaded housewife Katey Sagal played on sleazy 80's-90's sitcom Married With Children. Today you'll see her influence all over the mall (though no one will admit it), where animal prints, spandex leggings and cinch belts adorn scores of mannequins. Gossip Girl is More Powerful Than We Think.

Today's New York Times reports about the cultural impact Gossip Girl has made on the fashion and retail industries. Merchants, designers, consultants, and television-deft people-watchers claim that the show is probably the biggest influence on the spending habits and fashion choices of young women.

It's an interesting article without any plot spoilers, so the GG addicts out there can read it, but chances are they don't need to know that everyone dresses like Serena or Blair.

Chrissy Snow, the quintessential "dumb blonde" stereotype from 1970s-1980's series Three's Company may have been a moron, but her sporty-shorty getups and babydoll PJs are still the stuff boners are made of (just look at Hef's #1 girl Holly Madison from The Girls Next Door - she bites the Chrissy look with regularity.)

With the 80's still holding ground as the retro decade du jour, taking a page from the stylebook of this classic Suzanne Somers character is more than appropriate. Here are a few pieces to get you there:
